I thought it was time to start a log of my build progress. This will be a slow process for me,hopefully being completed by mid August.I want to take my time this time as I rushed into my first tank and have been disappointed with my setup ever since.
I am starting with a 90 Gallon reef ready tank made by Aquarium Masters. The back is painted black from the factory. My stand and canopy are matching black monterey. Filtration will be run through a custom 24 gallon acrylic sump/refugium.My skimmer is a Reef Octopus dnwb 150 recirculating.I'm not sure what pump I'm going to use as the recirculating pump yet.My return pump will be an Eheim 1260 635 GPH. Lighting will be a current sunpod 2x150W metal halide with phoenix 14k bulbs.I hope to upgrade to 2x250W retro kit with a couple t-5's when the funds allow. Most of my stuff has been ordered and I'm trying to patiently wait for it to get here.I still need to order an american dj pc 100 to organize my electrical. I will post some pics tomorrow of what I have so far. Please feel free to critique or offer any advice on my plan. |

Looks like this is going to be an awsome build Scott. You're absolutly right on not rushing it. I also rushed my first build and am trying to do it right this time around with my build now.
Good luck! And LOTS of pictures PLEASE! |

Sorry it's been a hectic week, but here is a pic of my new tank.I hope to have all my equipment and plumbing supplies by the end of the week and do a leak test this coming weekend.Unfortunately it'll be a month after that before I can do anything else as I'm going out of town.

I know its been awhile since I posted.I have been very busy with work and Boy Scouts.I just got back in town a couple weeks ago after twelve days of backpacking in Northeast New Mexico. It was a blast and all twelve of us made it with no major injuries. We hiked over 85 miles in the mountains.
I have finally got all my plumbing supplies together and the pumps I needed.I have spent most of the day today plumbing and fixing leaks.I set up the tank in my garage with tap water so I wouldn't flood my living room if anything went wrong. Here are a few pics of what I accomplished today. The first pic is of my Reef Octopus Dnwb recirculating skimmer.I had to put it outside the sump as it was too big to fit inside.I am using a Mag 3 350gph to run the recirculation. ![]() |
