Also just if your interested I have two 29 gal tanks not being used atm. Could probably set you up with a heater and some crushed coral for bed (unless you want sand) and, maybe even a hang in filter if it still works for fairly cheap. Just would give you a little more water to work with and more room for a few small fish.

Just set it up buy a few live rock let it cycle then use 10 gal as a qt tank for new fish.

But Just a thought let me know and ill see what I can do

Hang Bag in tank to temp acclimate then after 10 min add a shot glass of tank water to bag and repeat every 5 min. and after every 2 or 3 shots dump a lill bag water down sink not in your tank do for 30 to hour and should be good

Welcome to the world of salt! It does sound like your fish likely stressed out & died from minimal/no acclimation. Here's a good procedure to follow:

http://www.reefland.com/forum/marine...tml#post137198

Also - have you done water testing? I always use a dip test when getting new critters so I can dip one strip into my tank & dip one into the bag - if the strips are very different, you want to take much longer acclimating than if the strips are pretty close.

It is also a good idea to keep an eye on your PH and your salinity. PH should be in the range of 7.9 to 8.4 - but stability is better than fluctuation! A constant 7.8 is better than a daily swing from 7.9 to 8.4. If your Nitrate is 40, there's a reasonable chance that your PH is lower than normal & any sudden change in PH can definitely kill a fish.

And about making new saltwater, there are many chemical reactions that happen when salt mix is added to water. It is important to let the newly salted water age for at least 24 hours, 48+ is better. It just needs to sit in a container with a powerhead to keep it circulating. Newly mixed saltwater can be toxic to the fish.

Also, stress coat and stress zyme are freshwater additives and not saltwater. Some people use them on saltwater, but it is much better to try & isolate a problem & fix it in saltwater rather than just adding things.

I think half of this hobby is researching & the other half actually doing things with the tank & playing with the fish! Here are a few links with some helpful info:

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/marine/index.htm
http://www.melevsreef.com/links.html
http://www.advancedaquarist.com/

Something to remember when reading/researching, there are many different opinions on how to do things and some of them will not agree. Not everything is right or works the same for every tank. It would be much easier if it did!

Good luck getting this figured out - & keep us posted on how your tank is doing! Photos are always fun too
